Celtic Daily Prayer 2: Daily Readings: Eata: Dec: PDF download
This downloadable pdf contains the Eata daily readings from CDP2 (Further Up and Further In) for the month of December.
This month’s readings are taken from the works of George MacDonald, C.S. Lewis and Madeleine L’Engle.
George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a Scottish author, poet and Christian minister. His writings, which draw deeply on the indigenous spirituality of the pre-clearance Highlands and folk memory of the people, have been cited as a major literary influence by many notable authors. C.S. Lewis once said “I have never concealed the fact that I regarded George MacDonald as my master; indeed I fancy I have never written a book in which I did not quote from him.” Madeleine L’Engle says ” Surely George MacDonald is the grandfather of us all – all of us who struggle to come to terms with truth through fantasy.”
Like MacDonald, C.S. Lewis applies his heart, brilliance and imagination to the task of opening another world to us so that we may never look at the inside of a wardrobe in the same way again.
As we move, in the middle of this month, from the writings of MacDonald to those of Lewis, our adventures in Narnia awaken in us a deeper homesickness that energises rather than discourages as it bids us to come “farther up and farther in”!
