The Quiet Path: Contemplative practices for daily life

The Quiet Path is a book for the walker, or the armchair traveller, the clear-sighted tourist, or the bewildered wanderer. Blending reflection and poetry, it shows how the simple practice of walking can become a quiet path of wonder, and how a brief pause in a busy day can turn into contemplation. It explores how the ordinary practices of walking and noticing, recognizing and writing can help us discover depth and spirituality in everything we encounter and find a deeper awareness of a Presence in all things. This book is not about the big idea, the motorway, the A-road, the bypass. It’s about snickets, byways, bridleways and gentle lines across the map. Every page is a signpost pointing down a quiet path, ready for you to take a walk through the landscape of the heart.

When the Heart Waits: Spiritual Direction for Life’s Sacred Questions

This newly reissued edition is Sue Monk Kidd’s inspiring autobiographical account of personal pain, spiritual awakening, and divine grace. Blending her own experiences with an intimate grasp of spirituality, the author relates the passionate and moving tale of her spiritual crisis, when life seemed to have lost meaning and her longing for a hasty escape from the pain yielded to a discipline of "active waiting." She compares her experience to the formative processes inside a chrysalis, charting the passages of her descent and ascent while offering wisdom and hope for the upheavals in our lives.

A Place at the Table: Faith, Hope and Hospitality

At a time when loneliness and isolation have reached unprecedented levels, it has never been more important for Christians to embrace the practice of hospitality. For many, it is a lost art - a practice we have forgotten, neglected or distorted beyond all recognition. Amid material comforts and rife individualism, practising hospitality can often hold unrealistic expectations and insurmountable pressure. But what if the practice of hospitality was simpler and yet more profound than we imagined? From the simple act of preparing vegetables to the warm welcome of a stranger, co-authors Miranda Harris and her daughter Jo Swinney re-define hospitality for the modern age. Drawing on biblical insights and a deep well of experience - most significantly within the community in the A Rocha family - this is a warm invitation to embrace the loving kindness of others. To be hospitable doesn't require culinary excellence or matching cutlery - it doesn't even require a home of one's own; true hospitality offers a welcome into imperfection and messiness, a place to belong and be embraced. Following the progression of a meal, from its planning to the moment every guest has departed, A PLACE AT THE TABLE is a heart-warming invitation into a life of thoughtful food preparation, shared meals and meaningful conversation.

    Celtic Candles: Greetings card

    ,
A square greetings card with envelope in a cellophane bag. The card has a print of original artwork by Francesca Ross, who writes: "Candles have importance as a symbol or focus at all times of year, but at Christmas, they are especially a reminder of the significance of the birth of Jesus as the Light of the world. For this design I wanted to have three candles, for the Trinity, richly decorated with patterns from or inspired by those in the Book of Kells, a reminder of John 1:5, that God's light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome or even comprehend it."

Three Gifts for the King of Kings: Greetings card

    ,
A square greetings card with envelope in a cellophane bag. The card has a print of original artwork by Francesca Ross, who writes: "I wanted to create a design that had a rotational symmetry, that took the eye round the design, with a swirl of rich colours, and highlighted the three gifts - gold, frankincense and myrrh - that were brought to Jesus by the Wise Men following the guidance of the Star. They came from the East, so I looked at the designs used in Persian carpets, and included them - flowers for the garden of Eden, leaves for the Tree of Life or eternity, stars for happiness, birds for power and strength, and the boteh or flower buds for regeneration."

    Celtic Stars: A6 card

    ,
An A6 greetings card with envelope in a cellophane bag. The card has a print of original artwork by Francesca Ross. Francesca writes: "Winter is the best time to see the stars, in all their complexity and variety, and I wanted to combine them with the wonderful words from Isaiah 9:6.  I started by designing patterns - part star, part snowflake - drawn as knotwork, from the simple to the complex, and then spent ages shuffling them round with the words round so that they complemented each other. Emmanuel: A6 greetings card

Words: Emmanuel God with us. Background:

All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ which means God with us. Matthew 1 22:23

This piece was inspired by the Michael Card song, ‘Immanuel’. I have included the Romanised version of the word Emmanuel or its translation ‘God with us’ in many different alphabets to show that God came to earth and remains in the form of the Spirit, for everyone, regardless of race. We are all God’s children and loved equally and beyond measure. "A sign shall be given, a virgin will conceive, a human baby bearing undiminished deity. The glory of the nations, a light for all to see that hope for all who will embrace His warm reality. Immanuel, Our God is with us. And if God is with us, Who could stand against us? Our God is with us, Immanuel" © Michael Card (www.michaelcard.com). Printing and Sizing: This item is 105mmX148mm and is printed on 300gsm gloss card stock. Each card is blank inside, has its title and copyright details on the back and is individually wrapped in cellophane with an envelope

    Wrestling with my Thoughts

She couldn't believe it. There she was with her medical qualifications sitting on the floor of a mental hospital. She'd offered her life to God, wanted to serve him anywhere, but no, surely not this... Sharon Hastings is absolutely passionate about helping anyone who suffers from 'severe and enduring mental illness' (SEMI): schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and schizoaffective disorder. She wants the church to know all about these illnesses: how they devastate ordinary people and how they need to be treated. By telling her story, warts and all, showing her own tortuous, painful journey, she equips us to come alongside loved ones, fellow church members, friends and neighbours, understanding the social and spiritual ramifications of their illnesses, including them in our activities (where appropriate) and encouraging their spiritual growth. A natural storyteller, the author draws us in. We journey with her. With wisdom, kindness and the heart of a bruised survivor, she interweaves her exceptional story with vital teaching which simply cannot be ignored by anyone within the church today.
