They came from the East, so I looked at the designs used in Persian carpets, and included them - flowers for the garden of Eden, leaves for the Tree of Life or eternity, stars for happiness, birds for power and strength, and the boteh or flower buds for regeneration."£2.00 -

I started by designing patterns - part star, part snowflake - drawn as knotwork, from the simple to the complex, and then spent ages shuffling them round with the words round so that they complemented each other. This piece was inspired by the Michael Card song, ‘Immanuel’. I have included the Romanised version of the word Emmanuel or its translation ‘God with us’ in many different alphabets to show that God came to earth and remains in the form of the Spirit, for everyone, regardless of race.
