To me this story of Jesus after the resurrection speaks of trust and faith. There must have been something about the voice of the stranger who shouted from the shore, the disciples couldn’t tell it was Jesus and they weren’t expecting to hear His voice but the tone of His voice perhaps held a strangely familiar authority and conviction. The disciples had experienced a dark, unproductive night - Jesus told them, at the point they were probably thinking of giving up, to try fishing again in a different place. Our lives often experience unproductive 'dark nights', times when nothing seems to be going right. Our resources, often both physical and emotional, are on empty and we can’t see our way towards fruitfulness and restoration. The message of the 'casting nets' is to trust God's guidance, to keep trying (perhaps push at new doors, try new ways) and to have faith that however dark and however long, each night will end in a new day. And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders, I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth; and he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
